Local Hiring and Small Local Companies Utilization

Michael Baines played a key role in organizing and negotiating with Kaiser Foundation Health corporate and McCarthy to implement a Mentor-Protegee program and Local Hiring program to ensure residents of Oakland were hired and small local companies were given fair opportunities to bid and win contracts. All subcontractors were requested to utilize 50% local workforce participation. This was a significant program and milestone for Kaiser Foundation Health and McCarthy Building Companies to give back locally and to help local small contractors to improve, grow and scale up to work on larger projects. This was a highly successful program for the project.
